Deere Unveils Enhancements for 7, 8, and 9 Series Tractors

Deere & Company – March 2, 2023

John Deere has revealed a suite of model-year 2024 upgrades for its 7, 8, and 9 Series Tractor lines, positioning them for a future defined by precision agriculture. Among the key innovations are the advanced StarFire 7000 integrated GPS receiver and a completely redesigned G5Plus CommandCenter Display, both included as standard equipment.

“We’ve equipped our larger John Deere tractors with cutting-edge technology, empowering our customers to achieve peak efficiency and effortless operation today, while simultaneously preparing their machines for autonomous operation in the years ahead,” stated Ryan Jardon, marketing manager at John Deere.

The StarFire 7000 Receiver boasts five years of consistent performance and a 73% faster signal acquisition time, achieving 17% greater accuracy with SF-RTK compared to earlier models utilizing the SF3 signal. Further improvements have been made to signal stability and dependability, providing the most precise guidance and accuracy ever offered by John Deere. SF-RTK delivers year-after-year repeatability without requiring the installation of base stations.

Within the cab, operators will find the all-new G5Plus CommandCenter Display (with an optional G5Plus Extended Monitor), featuring a larger screen, increased processing capabilities, and expedited file transfer speeds compared to previous generations. The G5Plus offers a 35% larger viewing area and vivid 1080p high-definition video. The 12.8-inch touchscreen display and enhanced video resolution provide operators with clear, bright, and intuitive access to machine controls, AutoTrac guidance, and Section Control—all now standard features.

“Operators can further enhance their capabilities by adding the optional G5 Advanced package, unlocking access to a suite of John Deere applications including AutoTrac Turn Automation, AutoPath, AutoTrac Implement Guidance, Machine Sync, and In-Field Data Sharing,” Jardon explained. “The G5 Advanced software license delivers these valuable functionalities while minimizing upfront costs, offering ongoing improvements, and allowing users to only pay for the features their farm requires. These applications enable farmers to cover more ground each day with reduced effort and stress. The G5 Advanced package is available as a one- or three-year subscription from the factory. With G5Plus, farmers can rest assured they are utilizing the latest, most sophisticated features available.”

Another notable feature Deere is making available is a factory-installed implement ethernet connection, enabling future high-bandwidth communication between tractors and implements.

John Deere is also offering an Autonomy Prep package for 8 and 9 Series Tractors, ensuring these machines are equipped with the necessary components for future autonomous operation.

“This includes a compatible transmission and visibility package, implement ethernet, a robust 330-amp alternator, and other essential hardware,” Jardon clarified. “While further components may be required, the Autonomy Prep package outfits these tractors with known autonomy components, minimizing future upgrades when autonomous technology becomes more widespread.”

A new right-hand cornerpost display has been added inside the cab of all 7, 8, and 9 Series Tractors. The easily-readable display features digital readouts and an illustration area, ensuring these tractors can benefit from advanced features as they become available. A factory-installed rear-window tint is also available for John Deere CommandView 4 cabs, enhancing operator comfort and improving visibility to display screens in bright sunlight.

Additional updates include a 20-horsepower increase for all 9RT two-track tractors, with options including the 9RT 490, 9RT 540, or 9RT 590.

For potato, sugar beet, and vegetable growers, John Deere has expanded track-spacing options for its 8RX four-track tractor line, including 132-, 136-, 144-, or 152-inch wide track spacings, compatible with 16.5-, 18-, 24-, and 30-inch track widths, as well as John Deere ExactRate fertilizer tanks.
