Landini

The Landini story began in the workshop of Giovanni Landini. As early as 1884, Landini was crafting agricultural machinery, with experience in both steam and internal combustion engines preceding the First World War. Following in their father’s footsteps, Landini’s sons continued the family business, producing their inaugural tractor in 1925—powered by a hot-bulb diesel engine. These tractors quickly gained widespread acclaim, establishing Landini as Italy’s preeminent tractor builder before the outbreak of World War Two. Production recommenced following the war's conclusion, though the earlier diesel technology had begun to fall out of favor. Landini successfully adapted by incorporating Perkins engines under license in the 1950s, and ultimately became part of the Massey-Ferguson group in 1959. A new chapter commenced in 1994 when Argo SpA brought Landini into its portfolio.
